Valentines

This year I told Scott that we were keeping Valentines VERY low key.  Maybe just go out to dinner to Cafe' Rio or its equivalent, because we are going to Hawaii soon I thought we should save everything for the trip. He agreed because he is so amazing but he did surprise me with flowers
Check out my beautiful flowers from my Sweetie and my Dad.  I love getting flowers.  If I could I would have fresh flowers every week.  So if any of you want to send me flowers you would totally make my day.  There is just something so happy about flowers.  Blame my fascination of flowers on my florist mother/ thanks mom I actually love it.  There was a time when I thought the perfect job would be a flower delivery person.  Everyone is happy to see you and everywhere you went you make people smile.  I still may do that when I grow up, IF I ever grow up.
Valentines day is one that I am a little indifferent about.  I'm not against it but I'm not totally crazy about it either.  Although I have many loves in my life, my Sweetie being number one I always find the actual holiday a little lack luster.  Don't get me wrong I am all about celebrating those loved ones but when we all do it on the same day it seems a little crowded.  Not to mention the school activities involved are a lot of work.  One thing I do like doing here is the Valentines day boxes.  I think its fun to come up with the ideas and bring them to life.  This year we did 2. One for William and one for Brennen.  Brennen's turned out super cute.  He loved it.  Williams was not so amazing but then again I am not into Minecraft (a popular video game) and his was a "Creeper" from that game.  The important thing was that HE loved it, and his friends thought it was so cool.
I was happy with the actual valentines thanks to Pinterest. We always have a stock of glow sticks at our house so all I had to do was print off the template and voila.  Of course I had to restock my glow sticks after doing 70 valentines, but it wasn't candy, and it was simple and cheap and everyone loves glow sticks.

So in honor of St. Valentine.  Happy Valentines Day everyone.  May you all be as loved and blessed as I am.

Geek of the Week

Here's our Brennen winning another spot in the Geek of the Week.  This kid is such a ham I tell ya.  Anytime a camera is present he is right there doing something to get your attention.  I'm not exactly sure what this pose is supposed to be.  Shall we say its his version of "Blue Steel"?This video can also be classified under the Geek of the Week.
I often have music playing in my house.  It is my release, my fun, my motivation to clean, my trick to NOT have the TV on. (usually if I have music playing my children wont turn on the TV.)  It is just the stuff life is made of.  I love that my children love music almost as much as I do.  Here are two of my biggest Geeks hamming it up.  I'm pretty sure they get their dance moves from their dad but hey they ARE having fun!!!
So turn the music up people lets dance!!     (excuse the bullets and mess in the background.  Just keepin' it real people.)

guns

Every day I notice that my living room is shrouded with weaponry.  I am starting to think that we are unconsciously training our own little militia.  However boys will be boys and will turn anything into a weapon.  This morning Peter got a hold of my curling iron brandishing it about the house shouting "check out my new hot dog gun."  then proceeded to make shooting sounds as he ran through the house.  Kids are so funny.
Ah boys my life would be so boring without them.

the jump

So it has snowed and snowed just when I was ready for it to stop snowing.  It dumped 3 feet in 1 day.   I had shoveled a foot of snow in the morning then in the afternoon I shoveled another foot, and it was still snowing.  After 2 days of snow the sun finally came out and melted half of the snow so I told the kids we were going to go sledding before it all melted.
The day started off to a bad start with a meeting with the tax guy that didn't quite go as planned but I told Scott it would be better and that we should do something to get his mind off of it.  He was a little reluctant but I made it happen.  I was excited to go so I got everyone ready and we headed to the pseudo Kmart hill because its so close.
We were all having a great time, sledding down and hiking back up. the day was so pretty and everyone was happy.  Even Peter who hated it last time was all smiles this time.  It made such a difference.
I decided that I just had to try the jump.  After 2 failed attempts( I missed the jump) Peter  climbed on wanting to go off the jump.  As i was careening down the hill right on track I had a brief thought, "should I be doing this with Peter on the sled?"  A thought that came too late.  we hit the jump perfectly with Peter woo-hooing as we caught air.  I thought I should try to save my tailbone and put my feet out and down to catch my decent.  that was the wrong thing to do. I knew it as soon as I did it.  My foot went under the sled then wrenched the wrong way.  I just laid there for about 10 minutes trying to decide if I broke my ankle again.  In the mean time other kids wanted to go off  the jump so they are all yelling at me to get out of the way.  I crawled about 10 feet away and laid down a little longer getting the strength to stand up.
Scott just stood and stared at me with a look that said "you idiot"  I know I know I'm an idiot.  I keep thinking I am younger than I am.So I tried to laugh it off.
I was pretty sure it was okay until I tried to stand up and walk to the car.  I was wondering why we parked so far away.  Once we were all loaded in the car the pain hit and I thought just maybe it was broken. We dropped the kids off at home and Scott said get in the car we are going to the urgent care.  Scott was pretty upset with me.  He said it was that "dang Wright gene" in me that makes me do stupid stuff just so I can say I did it.  I'm not confirming or denying that.
I really was having a great time and thought the jump would be fun.
The doctor was pretty funny.  When he went to compare my hurt ankle to my other one I told him that wont work because it was my good ankle.  To which the Dr. replies "Not anymore it isn't".  So he had me bring them together just to see.  Once he saw my other one he said, "your right that ones junk, get it away."  (I love it when I find a doctor just my style.)  After x-rays that showed it wasn't broken he told me that I should really take up something easier on my body because my ankles are 70 years old and I am not so what do I think about quilting.
Thanks doc but I don't think I could sit still long enough to quilt.

memories of dad

These next few stories are from my sister Kate. . .
(the comments in parenthesis are Jane)

Sometimes I didn't want to go to bed but everyone told me to go to sleep in my own bed.  But I didn't want to miss out on anything, so I would eventually fall asleep on the couch.  Dad would always put on an extra warm Indian blanket on us.  Under that tough exterior is and old softy. -Kate

Dad's love of history.- One summer he and mom decided to take what kids were left at home on a church history tour.  We stopped at every single church history site from Utah all the way past New York, and on to Canada to see the falls.  Mom would get up real early to start driving and dad would drive late into the night.  It took us one week to see everything in our trusty motor home, the only Ford we ever owned.  Every state we got a different magnet.  That motor homes whole oven was full of magnets and will still be collected.  When we were younger my dad would always collect shot glasses.  It was kind of funny because we didn't drink alcohol so we used them as Kool Aid shot glasses. -Kate

Another motor home adventure was when dad had to see monument valley.  This was the longest most boring trip I had been on.  It felt like we drove for days.  Then we started to get excited.  I looked out the window and saw wild horses running across the flat mesa rocks.  Then we finally made it to monument valley,  well almost, dad pulled the motor home over to the side of the road got out and said "Lyn take my picture." then got back in and started to drive away.  Apparently he didn't want to pay for the tour to drive out and touch the rock formation.  So my mom convinced us to go into the visitors shop and also go check out the local Indians.  Dad bought a cool tomahawk there. -Kate

I was one of the naughtiest kids growing up and had a lot of sass.  One day I don't remember what I said but my dad picked me up and carried me out to the winter cold night and threw me in the freezing cold hot tub clothes on and all. (Kate was most likely sassing my mom.  My dad would take a lot of heat but don't ever sass mom when he's around he would not stand for it.) -Kate

My dad and I had a good connection. We are both people of few words.  I think he liked that.  I loved to ride horses too, we went on a lot of rides together so he trained me well.  Everyday after school I would saddle up run all the way to the equestrian center behind our house race barrels  then run to the top of the mountain and back home.
One day dad thought Duchesses cold Duke was ready to be ridden and being all macho in front of a guy, I grabbed my boots and jumped on that horse.  Well before I could swing my leg over to the other side the colt bucked and threw me tight onto the hitching post legs apart.  Thank goodness I am not a boy but I had a really hard time walking back home across the front lawn. -Kate

(Dad would often use us kids to break in horses.  He did that because we were tough and light.  It wouldn't be too much of a shock for the horse for a child to get on.  That being said some horses took longer to get used to a rider than others.  My personal limit was about 5 throws.  If a horse bucked me off 5 times I was done for the day.  ) -Jane

Dad loves cars and I don't know much about them but I pretend I do.  Dad found Grandpa Cleo's old red 79 Chevy pickup, we restored it as best we could with a lot of Bondo and I drove that in high school. Always wanting to be like the guys I had to have a truck.  Dad got me 4 other trucks to drive.  No matter how maay accidents or blown engines I had he never said a word.  I think my dad was good at teaching us that stuff is just stuff, and the older the better cause its easier and cheaper to fix.  -Kate

I don't know how but every where I went people knew who my dad was.  I could mention his name and get his special discount. -Kate

Beeing the second to youngest I had a lot of advantages.  I got to go on a lot of trops.  My mom and dad took me to Cozumel, Argentina, Belieze and millions of motor home rides, Hawaii twice and I never had to pay for anything but my souvenears and activities. -Kate

( Dad loved to give his kids anything in his power.  If you ever needed something and he didn't have it to give it to you he would find a way to get it for you.  I call it the poor kids syndrome.  He wanted to give us things he never had, sometimes it was way above and beyond)- Jane

dad was good to take care of mom always letting her be herself with adventure and disiplining us.  They never fought in front of us and dad was always their for dinner.  It made our family seem perfect. -Kate

Christmas was a lot of fun growing up.  We had so many kids that presents filled the entire peach room.  And still every year their was always something hiding outside. (He loved Christmas and loved to give.  We always had some "homeless" people over for some part of the Christmas holiday, dad always had an extra In-and Out shirt, flannel,  or flashlight to give them so they would have something). -Kate

Giving was easy for dad to do.  Anything you wanted to borrow you just had to ask where it was.  He often came by our new house with a truck bed full of garden tools and other things we might need.  I think my dad supported more than 5 young men from our ward on their missions. -Kate

Dad was always early to church, honking the horn cause I was the last one out of the house. -Kate

New Years 2012/2013

It has been so blasted cold lately that we decided to have a tropical themed new years party. We are all sick of the cold and my mom's house is kept at 80 degrees because my dad can't keep warm.  She totally decked out the whole place complete with tiki umbrellas inside and everyone was instructed to come dressed in the proper attire.
With  all of us jonesing for warmth we ate taco's and lake sandwiches with pina colada's and Mexican Fanta.
We had all the classic games with some new ones added.  It was so funny to watch the kids dance away with the new xbox kinnect dance game.  However the funniest game was reverse charades.  Its played with 1 guesser and the rest of the team tries their best to act out the word.  The funnest part is that everyone has their own idea of how to get the guesser to get the word and it turns into chaos. The guesser has a hard time focusing on which actor look at.  It's a barrel of laughs and a wonderful party game.
TK spent the night at the "bar" drinking the night away.  Paul was extra dashing with his fake chest hair.
I realize that I am getting older because I was ready to call it a night around 10 pm. I pushed through the sleepys chugged a coke and whipped out the Nertz cards.
We finished off the night with some fireworks and my brothers canon. Totally scaring the neighbors dog so he ran into the house and wouldn't leave. Good thing we're dog people.

shrunken turkey

Now that Peter is getting older and trying to understand the world better he says some of the funniest things. For dinner on Sunday Scott talked me into cooking a duck.  I had never cooked duck before but thought I would try it out.  It came out just fine.  I had it resting on the stove when Peter came into the kitchen with an accusing tone "MOM SOMEONE SHRUNK THE TURKEY, WHO SHRUNK THE TURKEY?" I thought it was funny.  I tried to explain to him that it wasn't a turkey it was a duck.  He immediately told me with a run on sentence that "We don't eat duck because they have blood in them and they poop eggs out of their butt's, but we can't say butt's 'cause that's a potty word."
On Sunday I wanted to prepare Peter for going into primary.  I reminded him that now that he is 3 he gets to go to the big kid primary and not the baby nursery.  To which he replied, "Ya I know mom.  I'm a big kid now and that means I can make my own decisions!"  I told him as long as he makes good decisions I'm okay with that.
The things that come out of this kids mouth.  I swear I could die. Doesn't he know he's only 3?
