Shelby and Her Kids Dry Creek Park No Screen Time Aug 2016

I decided to try to limit my kids screen time not that school is starting.  There are no real rules in the summer and sometimes we need to get back to basics.  The only problem is that it means more work for me.  I'm mostly okay with that.  SO instead of letting the screens take over I took over and took my kids to dry creek park.  We explored and played in the water.  why must I always get tired and just let the kids have screen when I love it outside so much?  Here's to hoping I can remember to be a good mom most of the time

New York Central Park April 2015

Central Park is my second favorite thing about New York.  New York is loud and exciting but can often feel claustrophobic.  I know I can appreciate the beauty of the city but the spaces are what help the city stand out.  I think if I lived here I would spend a good part of my days in Central Park.  One can get a glimpse however small of how New York must have been in the very early years.
It is so peaceful in the park with all its greenery, real greenery and water with statues and fountains dappled across the acreage.
It was neat to find what imagination could describe as secret hideaways and bridges although I am sure they have been found and traveled on by thousands it seems like they were just discovered after years of hiding.

swing into the sunset Aug 2014

As summer come closer to its end the kids tend to get restless.  This particular day the boys were being extra buggy and I knew if I didn't get them out someone was going to explode.  I had them walk down to the school to teach them some ultimate frisbee with my new cheater frisbee. Lets just say they were terrible.  They argued over who was on whose team, they didn't understand how to play and they got mad when their teammate missed their mark.  So we bagged the firisbee idea and just played on the playground.  I was surprised that they didn't know how to hand upside down on the web or the monkey bars.  I guess that's a girl thing.  So I taught them the fine art of being upside down. and we finished off the day swinging into the sunset.  Its days like this that I need to remember to stop what I am doing and just go play with my kids.  Don't let the electronics take up their play time because its easy.  When they do that they don't learn how to be kids, how to play like a kid.  I will try harder to make more time for just play.  Old school play.
